Understanding the Basics

Whether you’re new to cannabis or a seasoned user, we believe knowledge is key to a safe, effective, and enjoyable experience. Explore our guides, tips, and resources to better understand products, effects, and responsible use.

  • What is Cannabis?

Cannabis is a plant used for wellness and therapeutic purposes. It contains compounds like THC (psychoactive) and CBD (non-intoxicating) that interact with your body’s endocannabinoid system.

  • Types of Strains:

Sativa: Uplifting, energizing, great for daytime

Indica: Calming, sedative, ideal for evening use

Hybrid: Balanced effects, tailored for specific needs

  • Consumption Methods:

    Smoking or vaping flower

    Edibles (gummies, chocolates, capsules)

    Tinctures and oils

    Topicals for localized relief

    Concentrates (for experienced users)

  • Not sure where to start?

Our staff can help you choose based on:

Your wellness goals (sleep, stress, pain relief, focus, etc.)

    Your tolerance level

Preferred format (edible, flower, vape, etc.)

    Desired onset time and duration

  • THC vs. CBD: What’s the Difference?

THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol): Produces a “high,” helps with pain, appetite, and sleep

CBD (Cannabidiol): Non-psychoactive, known for easing anxiety, inflammation, and more

Many products contain a balance of both to enhance effects

  • What Are Terpenes?

Terpenes are aromatic compounds found in cannabis (and other plants) that contribute to flavor, smell, and effects. Some common ones:

    Limonene: Citrus scent, mood-lifting

    Myrcene: Earthy, promotes relaxation

Pinene: Pine scent, helps with focus

Linalool: Floral, calming, similar to lavender

  • Start Low, Go Slow

Especially with edibles, effects may take 30–90 minutes to kick in. Begin with a low dose (2.5–5mg THC) and wait at least two hours before consuming more. This helps avoid overconsumption and negative effects like anxiety or discomfort.

  • Keep Products Secure

Always store cannabis in a cool, dry place, ideally in child-resistant packaging. Keep all products out of reach of children and pets to prevent accidental ingestion.

  • Don’t Drive or Operate Machinery

Cannabis can impair reaction time, coordination, and judgment. Never drive, bike, or operate heavy equipment while under the influence — it's not only dangerous, it's illegal.

  • Know the Laws

Only purchase and consume cannabis from licensed dispensaries in states where it's legal. Follow Maryland's cannabis laws, including:

    Possession limits

    Age restrictions (21+)

    No public consumption

Restrictions on transporting across state lines

  • Consult a Medical Professional

If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking prescription medications, talk to a healthcare provider before using cannabis. While many find relief with CBD or THC, safety comes first — your provider can help determine what’s right for you.

  • THC / CBD Content

Most labels display the milligrams of THC and CBD per dose and per package. This helps users control their experience:

    Low dose: 2.5–5mg THC (beginner)

    Moderate: 10mg

    High: 20mg+ (experienced users)

  • Ingredients & Allergens

Like food products, cannabis edibles, tinctures, and topicals should clearly list:

Ingredients (including sweeteners, oils, gelatin, etc.)

Any known allergens (e.g., dairy, nuts, gluten)

    Whether it's vegan or gluten-free

  • Lab Testing & Compliance

All legal cannabis products in Maryland must undergo state-certified lab testing to confirm:

    Potency (accurate THC/CBD levels)

Purity (no pesticides, heavy metals, or mold)

    Proper labeling

At MD Supply Wellness, we only carry products that meet or exceed Maryland’s regulatory standards.

  • Batch / Lot Number & Expiration Date

Each product comes with a traceable batch ID, allowing you to confirm testing and manufacturing history. Always check the expiration date — over time, cannabinoids may degrade, affecting potency and flavor.
